Fattolin- Ayurvedic medicine for weight loss

Obesity is accumulation of excess fat in the body which may lead to negative effects on health, reduced life expectancy and increased health problems.
Now a days obesity has become a grave health concern worldwide. It is a lifestyle disorder of 21 st century. Obesity is a complex, multifactorial disease affecting over a third of world's population today. If this trends continues, by 2030 an estimated 38% of world's adult population will be overweight. As per research it is said that by 2025, India will have the second largest obese population in the world.
Obesity is typically defined as quite simply as excess body weight for height. It is a complex, chronic disease with several causes that lead to excessive body fat and sometimes poor healrh. Body fat itself is not a disease of course. But when your body has too much extra fat, it can change the way it functions. These changes are progressive, can worsen over the time and they can lead to adverse health effects. In Ayurveda obesity is called as `Sthaulya'.
*How to measure Obesity-
-Body mass index(BMI) has traditionally been used to identify individuals who are the most likely to be overweight or obese. It is calculated by dividing the weight(in kilograms) by the height( in meters) sqared. Generally a high value indicates excessive body fat.
Based on BMI obesity can be classified as follows-
18.5-24.9= Normal weight
25.0-29.9= Over weight
30.0-34.9= Class 1
35.0-39.9= Class 2
Above 40= Class 3
*Causes of Obesity
1)Excess intake of food
-If you are continously taking high amounts of food,it leads to increase of Agni(digestive fire) because body needs a way to digest increased food quantity, but because there is a blockage in meda dhatu, more and more fat tissue produced, leading to weight gain.
2)Excess intake of heavy to digest, sweet foods, oily foods-
Because there is increased digestive strength, if you are taking light to digest food, it will be digested fast and you start feeling hungry again. Hence, the person tends to eat heavy to digest and sweet foods, which directely increase fat tissue.
eg- Junk food, Bakery items,
3)Alcohol
4)Drinking too many sugary drinks or carbonated drinks
5)Comfort eating
6)High intake of calories- The energy value of food is measured in units called as calories. The average physically active man needs 2500 calories a day while female needs about 2000 calories a day.
7)Lack of physical activity- many people have sitting type of job. Also many people rely on their cars rather than walking. If you are not active enough, you do not use the energy provided by the food that you eat and the extra energy you consume is stored by the body as fat.
8)Sedentary Lifestyle
9)Genetics or heredity
10)Health conditions- some conditions such as metabolic syndrome, PCOD, hypothyroidism caused people to gain weight.
11) medicines- example Antidepressants, Beta blockers, OCP, Glucocorticoids.
12) Day time sleep- especially sleeping after lunch. In Ayurveda, it is called as `Diwaswap'.
13)High amount of stress
*Symptoms-
-Breathlessness even on little exertion -Deposition of fat on thighs, abdomen, buttocks and breasts.
-Lack of interest in doing work
-profuse sweating with foul body odour -excessive hunger
-feeling of tiredness
-excessive sleep
*Pathogenesis of Obesity-
-Due to obstruction(Avaran) in the srotas(channels) by the meda(fat), there is vruddhi of Saman Vayu which in turn causes increase in digestive fire( Jatharagni).
-It leads to rapid digestion of consumed
food and leaves the person craving for more food.
-It is a result of dysfunction of Meda dhatvagni( metabolism of fat).
-When our body has more calories than it can use it converts the extra calories into lipids and stores them in adipose tissue( body fat).
*Conplications-
-Coronary heart disease
-Diabetes
-Dislipidemia
-Hypertension
-Osteo Arthritis
-PCOD
-Infertility
